Thai Spirit Journey

Life in Thailand through Ange’s vision.

Differences between life in Paris and life in Southern Thailand

“In Paris, everything runs on a schedule mĆ©tro every few minutes, always somewhere to be, always background noise. Here, time slows down. Things happen when they happen heat, rain, tides almost dictate the day more than a clock does.

Paris is concrete, grey in winter, crowded. Here it’s green everywhere, humid, loud with insects and birds instead of traffic. I go from waking up to sirens and car horns to waking up to roosters.

Paris means baguettes, cheese, quick cafĆ© stops. Here it’s rice with every meal, fresh tropical fruit, street food, and spicier flavors very different rhythm of eating, more communal too.

Best moment of the last month

That would be our visit to Wat Mahathat. Two magnificent temples, and it’s also where we saw our first elephant in Thailand. A really special moment the mix of the temple’s beauty and seeing an elephant for the first time made it one of the highlights of the whole trip so far.

Learning with bamboo

I’m really enjoying learning how to work with bamboo it’s hands-on, practical, and honestly a lot of fun. What makes it most interesting is how different it is from anything I’ve worked with back home. In Paris and through my engineering studies I’m used to steel, concrete, technical drawings very structured, industrial materials. Bamboo is completely different: it’s natural, flexible, and requires a totally different way of thinking about building and construction. It’s been a refreshing change of perspective.

My instructor

My instructor Bang Ree has a really friendly, good vibe overall. It makes the learning experience much easier and more enjoyable having someone approachable to learn from makes you want to try things, ask questions, and get more hands-on rather than being intimidated by a new skill.
