International Internship of Eastern Medical & Nursing Program
( Belgium–Thailand )

ESG Experience, Eastern Medicine Methodologies, Sustainability Awareness, and Deep Cultural immersion in Local Thai Communities.

16 February – 25 April. 2026

Introduction

This international internship program is made possible thanks to the collaboration between Thai Spirit Life, the Green Guardians Association, partner universities in France and Belgium, the Local Health Dispensary of Laemsak, and Klang Ya Pharmacy(คลังยาเภสัช). Their shared commitment to education, sustainability, and community healthcare allows us to welcome international students and offer them a meaningful professional and cultural experience in Thailand. The local dispensary and the pharmacy play an essential role by opening their doors to the students and providing professional guidance, real field practice, and valuable medical instruction throughout the internship.

We would also like to thank our Local accommodation partners, Baan Gamnan Resort (บ้านกำนัน) in Ao Luek and Bulan Anda BaBa Resort in Laemsak, for welcoming and hosting the students during their internship. Their support helps ensure that the students have a comfortable and safe place to stay, allowing them to focus on their learning, work, and cultural experience.

We would like to give special recognition to our Local Directors, who guide and coordinate the whole process, our  Local Instructors, who share their knowledge and experience, and our Local Guides, who help build strong cultural connections between the students and the community. Together, they create an environment where learning is practical, human, and connected to real life.

Through this program, we hope to inspire students with vision, passion, and a sense of mission for their future in healthcare. We are grateful to be able to contribute, even in a small way, to sustainability, education, and positive social impact.

Nursing Internship Report

Laemsak Community Dispensary – Krabi Province, Thailand
Internship Period: 16 February – 25 April 2026
Students: Leila & Lauryn
University: Belgium – Final Year Nursing Students

Introduction

From 16 February to 25 April 2026, we had the pleasure of welcoming Leila and Lauryn, two final-year nursing students from Belgium, for a 10-week international internship placement in Thailand. As part of their nursing studies before graduation this summer, they chose to complete their internship at the local community dispensary of Laemsak, located in Krabi Province.

This internship allowed them to discover healthcare practices in a rural Thai setting, while actively participating in community healthcare activities alongside local medical professionals. Throughout their stay, they demonstrated curiosity, adaptability, professionalism, and genuine care toward the local population
.

First Week – Pharmacy Immersion

During their first week in Thailand, Leila and Lauryn completed a short immersion at the local pharmacy before beginning their placement at the dispensary.

This introduction provided them with an opportunity to better understand the differences between healthcare systems in Belgium and Thailand, particularly regarding:

  • Medication accessibility

  • Prescription practices

  • The role of pharmacists in community healthcare

  • Communication with local patients

The experience was especially enriching for them, as they were able to observe how healthcare is organized in a different cultural and economic context. They showed great interest in learning about local medical practices and adapting to the Thai healthcare environment.

Their arrival also coincided with the celebration of Chinese New Year, giving them the chance to share festive moments with the pharmacy team and experience an important cultural celebration within the local community.

Internship at Laemsak Community Dispensary

Beginning on their second week, Leila and Lauryn officially started their placement at Laemsak’s community dispensary.

Unlike a conventional hospital setting, the dispensary offered them a closer connection with the local population and a broader understanding of community-based healthcare. The internship focused strongly on preventive care, patient interaction, and daily nursing practices within a rural environment.

HPV Vaccination Campaign

On their very first day at the dispensary, they participated in an HPV vaccination campaign organized at the local school.

They actively contributed to the activity by:

  • Assisting healthcare professionals during the vaccination process

  • Helping reassure and comfort the children

  • Explaining procedures in a calm and supportive manner

  • Participating in preventive healthcare efforts within the community

This experience allowed them to immediately engage with the local population and understand the importance of public health campaigns in rural healthcare systems.

Daily Activities and Learning Experience

Throughout the following weeks, Leila and Lauryn worked closely with nurses and healthcare professionals at the dispensary.

Their daily activities included:

  • Observing and assisting with first aid care

  • Wound cleaning and dressing

  • Supporting patient consultations

  • Following chronic disease management and monthly prescription renewals

  • Discovering Thai traditional medicine consultations

  • Interacting directly with local patients and families

The internship enabled them to experience a healthcare environment very different from European hospital settings, where medical care is deeply connected with the local community and daily life.

They adapted well to the working environment and consistently showed kindness, motivation, and respect toward both patients and staff members.

Thai Massage Course Experience

During their sixth week of internship, the students also attended a traditional Thai massage course with our instructor, Night.

Throughout the course, they learned:

  • The history and cultural importance of Thai massage

  • Basic massage positions and body techniques

  • Traditional movements and stretching practices

  • The physical benefits Thai massage can bring to the body and overall well-being

The students practiced the techniques on each other, making the experience interactive and allowing them to better understand the movements and body positions involved.

This workshop gave them a unique opportunity to discover another important aspect of Thai healthcare traditions and holistic wellness practices.

They greatly appreciated the experience, which combined learning, cultural exchange, and hands-on practice in a memorable way.

Cultural Exchange and Personal Experience

Outside of their internship, Leila and Lauryn also had the opportunity to discover the cultural and natural richness of Southern Thailand.

During their free time, they explored several locations around Krabi Province, including:

  • Koh Lanta Island

  • Local beaches and natural landscapes

  • Nearby cultural sites and villages

They also took a short trip to Malaysia, allowing them to broaden their international experience and create lasting memories during their stay in Southeast Asia.

This cultural immersion was an important part of their internship journey, helping them develop greater openness, adaptability, and intercultural understanding.

Conclusion

Leila and Lauryn successfully completed their 10-week nursing internship at Laemsak Community Dispensary with professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication.

Throughout their placement, they demonstrated:

  • Strong adaptability to a different healthcare system

  • Genuine interest in community healthcare

  • Compassion toward patients

  • Respect for local culture and medical practices

Their presence was appreciated by both the healthcare staff and the local community. This internship represented not only a valuable professional experience for their nursing education, but also a meaningful human and cultural exchange.

At the end of their internship, both students received a Certificate of Achievement delivered by the director of the dispensary, in recognition of their participation, commitment, and contribution throughout the program.

We sincerely thank them for their involvement and wish them success in their future nursing careers after graduation.
