Participants work alongside local medical teams in hospitals and dispensaries, contributing to meaningful community healthcare through patient care observation, medical assistance, and cultural exchange.

Internship Facilities

Students can choose between three different healthcare facilities depending on the type of experience they are looking for.

.

1. Ao Luek Hospital

Ao Luek Hospital is the largest and busiest facility available for the internship program.

The hospital includes:

  • 100 inpatient beds
  • Gender-separated patient wards
  • 235 staff members
  • 111 nurses

Departments

Students may rotate between several departments such as:

  • Emergency Room
  • General Medicine
  • Thai Traditional Medicine
  • Nursing Care
  • Laboratory
  • Surgery Room
  • X-Ray & Scan Room
  • Labor & Delivery Room
  • Pharmacy

The hospital can welcome up to 8 students at the same time and regularly receives Thai nursing interns, creating a very interesting multicultural learning environment.

Internship Environment

Students are assigned daily to departments according to the hospital’s needs by the head nurse.

The internship tutor is:
Mrs. Yui — Head Chief Nurse of Ao Luek Hospital.

Working hours generally follow the local nursing schedule:
08:30 AM – 04:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Schedules may remain flexible depending on hospital activity.

Because this is an active public hospital receiving a large number of patients every day, students should expect a real working environment with a fast-paced atmosphere.

Accommodation & Area

Students staying at Ao Luek Hospital will be accommodated approximately 10 minutes from the hospital by car.

Transportation to the facility is not included but can be arranged upon request for an additional fee.

The hospital area includes:

  • Local restaurants
  • Cafés
  • Convenience stores
  • Mini marts

making daily life convenient for students.

.

2. Ao Luek Noi Dispensary

Ao Luek Noi Dispensary offers a quieter and more community-based healthcare experience.

The facility includes:

  • Emergency Room
  • Gynecology Room
  • Dental Care Room
  • Thai Traditional Medicine Room

Unlike the hospital, this dispensary only provides outpatient care and does not include inpatient beds or dormitories.

Patients requiring advanced treatment are transferred to the hospital.

Medical Team

The dispensary has a small team of 9 staff members including:

  • Doctor
  • Nurse
  • Pharmacist
  • Director
  • Administrative staff

The facility can welcome up to 3 students simultaneously.

Internship Environment

Because this is a smaller healthcare facility, the pace is calmer and the number of patients is more limited than at the hospital.

This placement is ideal for students seeking:

  • Closer interaction with staff
  • Community healthcare experience
  • A quieter working environment

The internship tutor is:
Mrs. Risteena Kijakarn — Director of the dispensary.

Accommodation & Area

Students are accommodated approximately 14 minutes from the dispensary by car.

Transportation can be arranged upon request for an additional fee.

.

3. Laemsak Dispensary

Laemsak Dispensary is the smallest facility of the program and offers a very local and immersive community experience.

Like Ao Luek Noi, the dispensary provides outpatient care only and includes:

  • Emergency Room
  • Gynecology Room
  • Dental Care Room
  • Thai Traditional Medicine Room

Patients requiring more advanced care are transferred to the hospital.

Internship Environment

The facility can welcome up to 2 students at the same time.

Due to the small structure and lower number of patients, the work environment is calm and community-oriented.

The internship tutor is:
Ms. Jiraporn Lekkham — Director of the dispensary.

Accommodation & Village Environment

Students staying in Laemsak are accommodated only 5 minutes away from the dispensary by walking distance, therefore no transportation is required.

Laemsak is a small fisherman village located by the sea, approximately 16 minutes from Ao Luek town.

Students should note:

  • The area is quiet and non-touristic
  • There is no large beach directly in Laemsak
  • The nearest beach area is Ao Nang, approximately 1 hour away

Because of the accommodation standards and location logistics, the internship cost in Laemsak is slightly higher than in Ao Luek.

.

Combined Internship Option

Students staying for a longer duration may choose to combine:

  • Hospital experience
    with
  • One dispensary placement

This option allows students to discover both:

  • Larger hospital environments
  • Smaller community healthcare structures

Combined placements must be organized in advance depending on facility and accommodation availability.

.

Accommodation

Students are accommodated in local homestays or guesthouses located near their internship facilities for convenience and easier integration into local daily life.

Rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, and include:

  • Air conditioning
  • Private bathroom
  • Wi-Fi access depending on location

Accommodation is shared between 2 to 3 students per room and separated by gender.

Private rooms may be available upon request for an additional fee and depending on availability.

Because accommodation depends on the chosen internship facility, the environment may vary between:

  • Town areas
  • Rural villages
  • Coastal communities

Students should understand that accommodation standards in Thailand may differ from those in their home country, especially in smaller local communities.

.

Meals

Breakfast and lunch are included on working days from Monday to Friday.

Meals are generally simple local-style dishes prepared by local restaurants or accommodation providers depending on the internship location.
